Belfonte Water Spiral

The Belfonte Water Spiral is a unique hand-crafted tabletop fountain. Droplets of water trickle helter-skelter down and round a bell-shaped spiral cut from brass sheet. A central electric light illuminates the droplets and casts moving shadows. The varying sensations of light, sound and water fascinate and relax.

About Me

Paul Fine: I am a retired Computer Software Engineer and Project Manager. Inspired by a Bauhaus sculpture by Arieh Sharon, I made my first abstract geometrical sculpture when a teenager. I began making them seriously in the 1980s and a pair are installed in the Garden Quadrangle at St. John's College, Oxford, England. Development of the Belfonte began around 1995 and the current model dates from around 2000. Some have been sold, others have been given to family and friends. I seek a commission and/or collaborators on a large-scale Belfonte. I have cut a spiral which can extend to more than the height of most rooms. I need a site to install it and I would welcome help in design and construction.

Delivery and Price

Tabletop Belfonte water spirals are now made to a recently improved design, illustrated below. They are donated to deserving individuals and organisations, and sell for less than 400 pounds. They are hand-made at the rate of one every 1-2 months. If you are interested in obtaining a Belfonte e-mail me at pfine@qscons.clara.co.uk to secure a place on the waiting list.
